Jacqueline Cuevas
About Me
Jacqueline Cuevas is a disabled woman, born and raised in Southwest Detroit, of Mexican and Puerto Rican heritage. She is married to Rose Cuevas and is the proud mother of Rosalinda, Elisa, and Elias. Her family owns and operates “Junction Party Store”, where they take pride in being considered a valuable asset to the community. In May 2025, they launched Foodtropolis Detroit, a food truck located in the store’s parking lot, serving authentic and flavorful Mexican, American, and Dominican dishes.
Jacqueline’s lived experience with a hidden disability led her to become a self-advocate, and she currently serves as Chair of Self Advocates of Michigan. In 2023, she founded her own public speaking business, “Kneading Soulutions”. Rooted in authenticity and passion, she invites others to redefine their lives, freeing themselves from the limitations society imposes through labels, diagnoses, and expectations, and envisioning a world where barriers are shattered and everyone can thrive.
She speaks candidly about how damaging stereotypes and stigmas surrounding disabilities can be in Latinx culture, encouraging conversations that spark change and shape how future generations promote and create inclusive societies—at home and in the world.
Through storytelling, Jacqueline shares her disability journey and champions self-acceptance, no matter how one identifies. She encourages everyone to embrace their unique stories, empower one another, and build a more inclusive and compassionate society. Her disability impacts her balance and mobility, but true to her Mexican-Puerto Rican-American roots, Jacqueline’s favorite form of transportation through life is dancing. Through movement, she experiences joy, freedom, and a deep sense of liberation—a space where her seizures can exist without judgment.
Jacqueline hopes her journey serves as an invitation for others to prove that adversity can be overcome, and one can thrive while making a positive impact simply by showing up as they are, healing, and stepping into the person they choose to become.
